100 YEARS ANNIVERSARY OF THE BIRTH OF

SVYATOSLAV TEOFILOVICH RICHTER

WHITE HALL

ERMOLOVA MUSEUM

MARCH 28

18-00

On March 28, 2015 together with the whole country Mozart Society (Russia) will celebrate the 100 years anniversary of the birth of Svyatoslav Teofilovich Richter. Innumerable number of essays, articles and critique is written about this great musician, so we don’t think that it is necessary to add more in this short announcement. We will mention only a part of his multifaceted activities that concerns our Society directly.

Alfred Shnitke being an avid fan of the performing genius of Svyatoslav Richter, wrote that he is «more than a pianist», bearing in mind that Richter is also «… a choregus, the first to notice and support talented young musicians and artists, he is a connoisseur of literature, theater and cinema, a completist and a vernissage visitor, a painter and producer himself…». And we would like to say a few words about two of his guises. Richter’s administrative abilities, fortunately, have spread also to our Society. Twenty-five years ago, Svyatoslav Teofilovich Richter and Nina L’vovna Dorliak have supported the idea of establishment of Mozart Society (Russia) and became its honorary members. And another Richter’s guise mentioned by Alfred Shnitke and related to our Society – his work as a producer and director. Thirty years ago, Svyatoslav Richter made his debut as an opera director, having represented Britten’s opera «The turn of the Screw» for the first time in Russian. The permanent President of the Society, Galina Pisarenko was entrusted with playing the leading role and has excellentky coped with this challenge.

Besides the anniversary evening in Ermolova museum, to which we invite all music lovers with great pleasure, a centenary celebration would be marked with the first publishing of clavier of Britten’s opera «The Turn of the Screw».
